Chiefs for Gender Equity Profile - Clare Harris

CEO Surf Life Saving SA

Clare joined Surf Life Saving SA, South Australia’s leading water safety authority in April 2014 following the retirement of a long serving CEO that had been in the organisation for 28 years.

Since her appointment she has led the organisation through a period of change and innovation and a few of her achievements to date include corporate restructuring, leading a successful bid for the 2018 World Lifesaving Championships, strong Government support with the launch of the South Australian Parliamentary Friends program, the development of Surf Sisters, a surf lifesaving gender diversity program, along with the registered training organisation component of the business returning a profit for the first time since its inception nearly 10 years ago.

Clare currently sits on the Premiers Taskforce for Women in Sport and is the only South Australian female CEO in sport administration and emergency services in South Australia.

Clare, prior to Surf Life Saving was the General Manager, Commercial Operations and Acting CEO at Netball SA where she led, implemented and delivered the new Adelaide Thunderbirds brand, image and repositioning campaign to the now well-known colour pink. This campaign secured a significant increase in profile, membership and commercial support.

Clare’s previous roles include business development, marketing and relationship management. She was also the National Corporate Services Manager with David Jones in Sydney.

Clare is a passionate advocate for gender equity. In her career she has been a role model and mentor for many successful women in her professional landscape and has consistently championed opportunities for women to contribute and lead in business, sport and community organisations.
