International Women's Day Message

Today on International Women's day (8 March), we recognise the economic, political and social achievements of women in the past, present and future. We look back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, look ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

While women’s participation in the workforce has increased significantly over recent decades, it is timely to acknowledge the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions. For example, recent data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, 2012 Australian Census of Women in Leadership shows that women account for just 10.3% of key management personnel in ASX200 South Australian companies. Gender diversity in leadership leads to better business outcomes. Through our ongoing work with business and in particular the Chiefs for Gender Equity, the Commission is committed to addressing this underrepresentation and improving outcomes for women and for business.
