Hypothetical dilemma for customers

Every time you shop at a particular store you get comments from the shop assistant about your inability to calculate the amount of money required to pay for goods. You have an intellectual impairment and the comments are humiliating, but it is a convenient shop that stocks the goods you like the most.

Consider the following:

  • Try speaking with the shop assistant and tell them how you feel. Sometimes the person may not know that you feel offended by their comments.
  • Check whether you can speak with the store manager or owner to explain how you feel.
  • Try taking a friend with you to talk to the manager or shop assistant.
  • Contact the Equal Opportunity Commission to talk to them about what's happening.
