Getting training at work
It is a good idea to provide training for workers to keep their skills current. Worker training can improve productivity, profits, morale and customer satisfaction.
Each employer approaches training differently. Some provide on the job training or pay for their staff to attend courses and workshops. Others support employees to undertake formal study such as a university or TAFE course.
Ask your employer what training options they offer. Under equal opportunity laws, all staff should have the same access to training.
If you think you might be missing out on training opportunities available to other staff because of your:
- age
- association with a child
- caring responsibilities
- chosen gender
- disability
- marital or domestic partnership status
- pregnancy
- race
- religious appearance or dress (in work or study)
- sex
- sexuality
- spouse or partner's identity
