We will protect your privacy and the confidentiality of your personal information, consistent with the South Australian Government's Information Privacy Principles (IPP), a copy of which can be obtained from the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

We collect personal information to undertake our work, as required by our legislation.

Our office aims to ensure that you always know why we are collecting your information.

We only use your personal information for the purpose it was collected. This usually occurs when you directly interact with us, for example when you:

  • provide us with your details as part of a discrimination complaint that we conciliate
  • subscribe to one of our publications (online or otherwise)
  • engage us to provide you with products or services relating to our activities
  • assist us to manage a product or service provided to you (e.g. attending to a request or enquiry that you may make in relation to a product or service that we provide you with or when you request that changes are made to that product or service)
  • make an enquiry to us about applying for a temporary exemption to anti-discrimination legislation which affects your organisation or business or about relying on exemptions within the Equal Opportunity Act, 1984 (SA)
  • participate in surveys
  • disclose your personal information to us that contains your personal information on any of our websites (including social media sites and platforms)
  • contact us
  • attend an event or activity we organise, sponsor or are otherwise affiliated with.

The EOC is committed to keeping your data secure and we will take all reasonable precautions to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, or alteration.

Personal information held by us is protected by a number of physical and electronic safeguards including restricted access to storage areas and computer databases.

We will take all reasonable steps to keep your personal information secure and confidential once it is no longer in use.

The EOC will allow access to your personal information in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1991.

Your information will not be disclosed to a third party unless:

  • you have consented to the information being sent, either expressly or impliedly
  • it is to prevent or lessen a serious threat of life, health or safety of yourself or another person
  • the disclosure is authorised under law
  • the disclosure is necessary for the enforcement of the criminal law, a law imposing a pecuniary penalty, or for the protection of public revenue or the interests of the government or statutory authority or statutory office holder of as an employer
  • the disclosure is necessary because of suspicion of unlawful activity, illegal or serious misconduct.

Generally we collect statistics on website usage, such:

  • as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses
  • time and date stamp
  • details of pages accessed and any documents downloaded.

No personal information is recorded unless a user sends an email authorising such activity or completes an online form.

Email addresses are not added to a mailing list without consent.

Personal information will not be disclosed unless we are authorised to do so, or required or authorised by law. In the unlikely event of an investigation, a law enforcement agency may issue a warrant to inspect the our internet service provider (ISP) logs.

We use social networking services such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to communicate with the public about our work.

When you communicate with us using these services we may collect your personal information, but we only use it to help us to communicate with you and the public.

The social networking service will also handle your personal information for its own purposes. These sites have their own privacy policies.
